Telephone helpline Staffed by trained female volunteers to offer support, advice and information to all non-abusing parents/carers and to other agencies and organisations. Hours of operation:
Advice Sessions - A new generic advice and information service, coming up soon, (London wide). Advocacy Outreach Service - This is a new London wide service. Outreach Advocate Volunteers will aim to empower and encourage non abusing parents/carer’s to have their voice heard, consider their rights and options, make decisions, gain access to services, provide information and support when dealing with external agencies such as, (but not exclusively), social services, the courts, housing offices and the police. They may also accompany non abusing parents/carer’s to relevant meetings and case conferences. We want this empowering service to reach non abusing parents/carer’s from a wide range of/diverse backgrounds, including reaching people from disadvantaged groups. We would also like to recruit, but not exclusively, volunteers that speak bi-lingual or multi-lingual languages, e.g. Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi, Somali and Urdu.
Befriending Outreach Service - A new London wide service for service users who are matched with Befriending volunteers. Not everyone has the support that they can rely on to help them get through difficult times and major life changes. An Outreach Befriending Volunteer can help fill this gap by providing, developing and promoting a positive relationship - helping to build trust, raising confidence, combating social isolation and enhancing the quality of a clients life. Activities are varied and mutually agreed, e.g. helping someone get out of their house more, having a cup of tea at a café, going for a walk, talking about shared interests and hobbies.
Client counselling - Volunteer counsellors provide an individual professional client counselling service. Client evaluation and feedback show the need for a counselling service within Mosac. 65% of the callers have identified this as a service they would use and value to enable them to come to terms with their situation and rebuild their confidence and self esteem. We aim to expand the service when funding for expenses and supervision allows. The project offers fortnightly group supervision and internal training days covering specific aspects/issues when working with sexual abuse.
Child Centred Play TherapyWe have a small budget to provide play therapy to a child whose parent is already being supported by us. Play therapy is a holistic approach, using play and art as a means of 'helping' the physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive aspects, both conscious and unconscious, taking account of the past, present and future of the whole child.
Confidence Building & Parenting Workshops - A variety of training provided in this new London wide service. Topics will help support parents to: Safeguard their Children, aid their child’s healing and enhance confidence/parenting skills, e.g. Undoing the effects of grooming, Managing sexualised/sex risk taking behaviour, Setting/maintaining boundaries, and Re-establishing parent-child bonds, Time for me, Positive parenting, Mealtimes, Creating my future, Assertive leadership, etc. Self Development Workshops can also positively enhance self confidence and even help with get back into work or rejoin community activities, e.g. Where am I going? Dealing with anger, Managing guilt, Saying No to abuse and Yes to me, Assertiveness skills, Coping with stress/relaxation, Embracing Positive Thinking, Goal planning, and much much more. Tell us what you want!
Service User Focus Groups - New Quarterly facilitated meetings for service users that have been part of our new outreach services, support group work and training workshop programmes.
Support Groups - New London wide satellite service offered to support more people. Support Groups provide a much needed space for group members to share experiences, receive support and gain strength from each other in a non judgemental and respectful environment. Group work helps to relieve isolation as group members can identify with feelings, experiences and processes within a safe space. Group work programmes/topics are influenced by service user needs following sound consultation with our Outreach Coordinator (has years of Group work facilitation expertise).
Information - Our information service includes a wide range of books, videos, audiotapes and a National database of other agencies and services for referral when necessary. This is helpful to families and agencies working with families affected by child sexual abuse. We have a large selection of leaflets for carers and children. Our poem booklet continues to grow and we welcome contributions from our clients. Mosac will raise awareness of the needs of the families affected by sexual abuse by liaison within the community and with voluntary and statutory agencies involved with families. We also offer presentations to staff teams.
