WHAT IS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY? The therapy is a hands-on way of listening and supporting the whole person’s system at all levels to recover and enhance its own ability to self-heal. It is through a very gentle touch and intention that the body will allow the therapist to co-operate in finding the optimum balance and health. This is why it is a very profound and effective therapy as it is the inherent intelligence of life force in all living tissues that knows what it needs to do and will guide the practitioner in order to return to its healthy pattern. HOW DOES IT WORK? The life force of the body is expressed through various rhythms in the body carrying the blueprint for health. The craniosacral system, comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that flows within the central nervous system, has a significant role in transmitting these rhythms. The well functioning of the craniosacral system is directly linked to the person’s physical, mental and emotional health and wellness. By ‘listening’ to the craniosacral rhythm with sensitive hands it is possible to evaluate and release the source of restrictions and imbalances, caused by life traumas and disease that the system cannot overcome. These restrictions are a reflection of disturbances to our health and block the inherent ability of the body to self-heal. A restriction in one part of the craniosacral system can affect the entire person’s health, so treatment may involve working at a point distant from the overt symptom. THE TREATMENT The treatment takes place with the patience fully clothed and lying on a couch or in position that feels comfortable. The contact during the treatment is made very gently and using no manipulation. The hands will be placed in different parts of the body, generally between the cranium and the sacrum but will more than often work with all your body’s systems and tissues as it guides the practitioner in its priorities of treatment. The patience may feel a deep sense of relaxation and possibly become aware of different sensations such as heat, tingling or pulsations. Memories, thoughts and images may come to mind as part of the processing mechanism during the treatment. The case history is taken in the first session and the treatment will normally last about 50 minutes followed by a discussion about the patience's condition, findings during the treatment and treatment approach. It is so gentle that is suitable for everyone, including babies, children and the elderly. BENEFITS The craniosacral therapy acts on the deepest structures and organs of the nervous system, therefore influences motor, coordination and pain mechanisms, the immune system, digestive system, the respiratory system, cardio-vascular system and the endocrine system. It is very effective in treating a wide range of conditions such as
