One of Mosac volunteer Mina De Pasquale completed a 10 km run to fund raise for us. We would like to thank you for this great effort and achievement.

Here is what Mina says about her experience :

Running a 10k was a great experience for me, it was not easy but it was definitely rewarding. The fact that I was running for Mosac helped me immensely it gave me the strength and motivation to begin to train but also to get it finished. And you know what? I have finished it! 10k for the duration of 1:04 minutes .

Thank you Mosac for your good work and thank you to everyone that supported me and this cause, I could not have done without you.

It was sweaty but worthy

Mina xx

Our lives were turned upside down, yet no one could see that. There was no one who was willing to listen or support us, not even my own family. I was completely isolated.

Along with our lives being turned upside down, there was the threat of our futures being completely messed up as well, had it not been for the support I received at Mosac, I wouldn’t have been able to get the strength together to turn our lives around and to be able to look to the future.

The isolation and stress over the past 2 years had made me not want to go on living.

Had that have happened then it would not have been fair on the children, they would not have just lost one parent but two, and it would have completely devastated an already painfully hurt little girl i.e. my daughter, who believed that her father no longer living with us was all HER fault. If I wasn’t there as well then she would have gone on blaming herself and thinking it was all her fault.

She was already having problems at school in terms of her behaviour and her education; she was also suffering from very low self-esteem and thought she was rubbish.

This would have been so difficult for her to deal with.

The anger and distress she was already displaying may well have become worse, but having had play therapy with Mosac and for me to be supported has helped for my daughter to improve her behaviour at school and in her education. It has helped her to realise that she is NOT rubbish, and that the way our lives have changed is definitely not her fault.

I feel that I have got the sweet, kind, thoughtful little girl back who I had lost.

Mosac has helped me to help myself, to be strong enough to turn our lives around and come through this. I am currently training to become a teacher. Mosac has helped us to try to survive, if we hadn’t then the abuse and the abuser would have won.

Our already difficult and painful journey would have been more so.

Thank you all so much, for everything you have done, hope that you will carry on doing the great work you have been doing.

God Bless You All.

Sana

I had a volcano within,
It came from nowhere,
Unforeseen, unreal, unbelievable,
Discriminating us – without a care

I had a volcano within,
Permeating all my veins
Eroding, erupting, cascading,
Invisible – my internal pains

I had a volcano within,
Dazed and scared to share,
Unbelievable, disregarded, ignored,
Does no one but me care?

I had a volcano within,

At Last I Made It Through

The uncertainty of the future

the day that I was told

was like walking down the darkest alley

without a hand to hold

Hopelessness and fear took over

more than not I’d say

thank you for the people

that helped me through each day

I just can’t help but wonder

if he’ll ever see

the injustice that he did to her

and to our family

I wanted no regrets

as to how I helped my baby

so I tried to take control

because I thought just maybe

Maybe I could do this

standing on my own

then I felt you gently nudging me

I knew I wasn’t alone

You’re love for me is deep

pursing me no less

so I’d give in a little

and you would give me rest

I finally gathered up this burden

and handed it to you

all things fell perfectly into place

at last I made it through

You Lord, are worthy of my praise!!!

Moasc is proud to announce the release of a new book Hurt, funded and written by one of our volunteers, Julia Webb-Harvey. Julia has worked over the last three years with five of Mosac’s clients to tell their stories. Hurt shows how non-abusing parents have navigated through the carnage after discovering that someone close to them has sexually abused their child.

Hurt tells in-depth stories of four family’s harrowing situations, each with a different sexual predator: father, stepfather, close friend and grandfather. The book gives a voice to each parent individually so that his or her painful truth is revealed to the reader. Hurt gives a voice to the parents who suffer greatly and feel that they have let their children down by not protecting them. The stories show the ways in which the families coped, and will provide a useful pathway for parents facing the same tragedies in their family. It does not offer step-by-step advice, but shows a way through to recovery, providing hope that families do begin to recover.

Non-abusing parent, Ginny, says of Hurt:

“I have just finished the book and it has really helped me… It has helped me to know that other parents understand what I have been through. It has helped me to know that I am only human to feel the way that I do. It has also helped me to know that there are passionate and loving parents out there prepared to risk everything for their children because I know that at least those are the children that will be safe.”

We think Hurt will be invaluable to professionals as well as parents/carers. It provides an honest view as a ‘first person account’, telling the reader exactly how it is.

Actress Patsy Palmer, who portrayed Bianca Jackson a mother whose stepdaughter was being sexually abused by her partner, in BBC Eastenders said:

“Having played the role of the non-abusing parent, I believe that Julia’s book will help bring solace to parents going through the reality of uncovering abuse. I hope it will help many more families to cope and know that they can recover and have happy times again.”

Hurt (RRP £17.99) is available from Amazon and www.liveitpublishing.com. Hurt is available at £12.99 from Live It Publishing.

Julia is generously donating all profits back to Mosac. Please also forward this on in your networks – it is the only book out there telling these important stories.

How do you cope with the knowledge,
your child’s been abused
Hurt angry, bitter, confused
Your instinct is to scream and shout
Certainly run and hide without a doubt

You have to be strong, when you feel weak
Encourage your young one to speak
Hold her, comfort her, but what about you
You need to be held, comforted too

When friends and family make you feel an outsider
You are the one who stands by her
Don’t they realise she’s been through pain enough
She’s a little girl, not grown up, not tough

Her heart and body broken
Wishing she’d never spoken
Where is the help she desperately needs?
There’s help everywhere or so we are led to believe

The abuser served six months in a house of correction
Segregated for his own protection
Who protected my child, so innocent, so perfect, so pure
Not me, not them, not him, for sure

At last a sympathetic ear for mothers of an abused child
Someone, who can help them, give them peace of mind
Mosac they’re called, an answer to a prayer
But what about the little ones so full of despair

I held my newborn baby in my arms
So precious, so perfect
I promised her a world of sunny days
So loved, so free
I held my little girl in my arms
So lovely, so lively
I promised her a world of new horizons
So loved, so free
I try to hold my teenager in my arms
So silent, so hurt
I saw, too late, black clouds engulfing
So choking, so blinding

I will hold the remnants of my family
so precious, never perfect
And I search the rainbow thro’ the clouds
so loved, never free
